Becta, or the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency, was established in 1998 and was the Government’s lead agency advising schools and colleges on the procurement of ICT equipment and e-learning strategy in schools. It was abolished in May 2010 and will cease operating in March 2011.

We offer our selection of material from the wealth of publications that were formerly available on the Becta website (closing 31st January 2011), under the Open Government licence (OGL). We have selected material we think will be of interest and arranged it in categories for easy access.

Quoting the ‘Global Grid for Learning’ blog, some of the areas of particular success for Becta, according to a recent online survey, have been strategic advice for schools on implementation of digital technology and effective procurement, funding research projects, new models of professional development and key programmes such as ‘self-review’ and ‘home access.

We hope our new Becta Collection covers most or all of these areas and will serve as a valuable source of information.
